The Simon and Garfunkel Experience
COO COO CACHO: THE STORY
Thomas Johnston and Ed Jankiewicz have been singing Simon and Garfunkel songs together since they met as high school freshmen way back in the late 20th Century. Now they join forces to present a tribute show encompassing the Simon and Garfunkel catalog. The show is structured as an actual S&G concert, building to a finale and encore. The set list includes all the greatest hits, some Paul Simon solo tunes, some deep cuts along with selections from the significant influences of Paul and Artie. The performance is about 2 hours without a break, but can be abridged or lengthened to fit your event. The program has been presented at Clinton Come Together, Pumpkin Fest in Clinton, Hay Day at Readington River Farm and as part of the Stanton Reformed Church concert series. Tom and Ed have a vast repertoire of folk, rock and pop tunes and can craft a variety program appropriate to any occasion, with or without a S&G set.
Ed and Tom both live in Readington, and perform together and as solo artists at area venues. Tom recently completed his third album of original compositions, in the singer/songwriter tradition with a strong Irish influence, and frequently performs this catalog along with his favorite cover tunes. Tom has his own recording label and music publishing company in partnership with his son, and he played over 100 performances in 2022. Ed has recorded one album of original music, and has an eclectic performance schedule including the Hunterdon Symphony, the Raritan Valley Recovery Bluegrass Band, Blue Jersey Band (Django jazz, standards and more) and Peter, The Contragenarians (old-time contra dance music), pop performances as “The Human Jukebox” with an extensive list of classic pop, rock and folk tunes, and serving as a cantor, guitarist and bassist in his church music program.
The name Coo Coo Cachoo comes from a nonsense phrase appearing in the third chorus of “Mrs. Robinson”. Tom and Ed wanted a name that came from the heritage of the Simon and Garfunkel lyrical corpus, which had so much relevance to the era of the 60s, but they soon discovered that all the good names were taken, multiple times. They hope Coo Coo Cachoo will come to be associated with the S&G heritage.
